And of course, there’s more! (I love saying that!)  During our two-week sale, all annuals, including pre-planted mixed containers, will be 30% off.  Fountains, birdbaths, and statuary: 25% off, and just about everything else store-wide will be 20% off.

Our Perennials Department has gone kinda crazy!

We already had a lot of colorful perennials in stock, but Perennials supervisor Richard says “Bring in more plants, say 10,000 new plants, and  mark ‘em down almost half price!”  Yup, even these new shipments of plants will be 40% off August 1st through August 15th.

Take a look at some of the new beauties he’s bringing in.

Blue Clips bellflower (a.k.a. Carpathian Harebell)

Blue Clips, as seen here and at the top of the blog, is an absolute head turner.   It has stunning bell-shaped flowers, is fast-growing, and blooms from late spring through late summer.

Blue Clips grows in a beautiful mound about eight inches tall and wide, takes full sun to part shade, and is rated a Zone 2!  That means it’s hardy to – 40*!  Wow! Crazy tough and beautiful all at the same time!

Papaya Popsicle Torchlily (a.k.a. “Kniphophia)

This compact, stunning plant is a real head-turner.  The buttery yellow and orange flower spikes stand about 30” tall, surrounded by a mound of arching grassy foliage.  The spikes appear from early summer to mid-fall and are excellent for cut-flower arrangements.

With dozens of tiny tubular flowers on each spike, Papaya Popsicle is a favorite of hummingbirds.  Torchlilies are especially attractive when planted in clumps of three to five in larger perennial beds.  It’s also a stand-out used as a “thriller” in mixed containers.  Papaya Popsicle prefers full sun to partial shade and dry to average, well-drained soil.

Purplegum Candles Veronica (a,k.a. “speedwell)

The bright purple spikes on Purplegum Candles veronica are a real workhorse in the garden, and bloom from early to late summer.  The spikes stand about 10” tall and are covered with tiny flowers that attract a variety of pollinators.

Purplegum Candles is especially appealing when planted in groupings of three to five, where the color can make a strong statement.  It’s also a great choice for rock gardens with medium watering once the plants have been growing for a season or two.  It prefers full sun, but will flower in partial shade.  Deer and rabbits don’t seem to bother it.

Cherry Sparks Penstemon (a.k.a. beardtongue)

Tagawa Gardens has carried Cherry Sparks penstemon in the past, but it’s such a great plant, Richard decided to bring in more for our sale.

The 20-inch spikes of this showy penstemon are loaded with large cherry-red flowers from late spring to late summer.  The size of the flowers makes them a favorite of all bees, especially bumble bees that fit nicely into the large throat of the blossoms.

Cherry Sparks grows best in full sun to partial shade, with more blossoms in sunnier locations.  It prefers dry to average moisture with well-drained soil.
