Join Rich Katz, a board member of the Rocky Mountian Bonsai Society, to learn the basics of starting a bonsai, caring for them, bonsai horticulture, suitable trees for bonsai, styles of bonsai, tips on how to grow successfully in our high plain desert climate, and more. You’ll leave with more confidence and knowledge on how to get started in this ancient Japanese art form.
Rich started his bonsai journey at the Chicago Botanic Garden and Midwest Bonsai Society in 2008. He studied with the gardens curator Ivan Watters and his successor, Chris Baker, as well as many guest artists and bonsai masters such as Bjorn Bjorholm, Susumu Nakamura, Mauro Stemberger, Walter Pall, Michael Hagedorn, and Ryan Neil.
In 2010, he became the VP of Special Events for the society. He moved to Denver in 2020 and joined the Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society where he continues to learn so much about the nuances of growing in Colorado. He serves on the RMBS board and teaches beginning bonsai classes for new club members. Check out www.rmbonsai.org to learn more.
