I hear it so many times from our guests: “Tagawa is my happy place!” These words are music to the ears of so many of us who work at Tagawa Gardens and help make it our happy place, too! Comments like this are a big part of what’s kept us going and growing for 40 years! And we think 40 years is cause for both celebration… and a bit of reflection.
Tagawa Gardens is proud to be a family-owned business. The Tagawa family’s life work focused on agriculture long before they opened what is now one of the largest independent garden centers in the country. Whenever I compliment one of the Tagawa Team on the success of a project or event, they routinely turn the praise around. They emphasize it was the hard work of staff and the loyalty of our customers that really counts.
Case in point: our owner, Jim Tagawa, when I asked for his thoughts on marking our garden center’s 40th year in business…
“I am so grateful to work with so many wonderful people and be able to provide new and wonderful garden products and innovative plant material. I am thankful for our guests who have supported us in so many ways through the years. We look forward to at least 40 more years of serving our community.”

In addition to our big 40th Anniversary Sale, we’re honored to celebrate several activities inspired by the Tagawa’s Japanese heritage. This weekend, we are featuring live koto music, live Rikka arranging, an Ikenobo Ikebana demonstration, bonsai classes, and even special stage shows! We are profoundly grateful for the cultural organizations and community partners who are generously sharing their time and talent with us to make these anniversary features possible.
The Denver Taiko Japanese drummers (including members of the Tagawa family) have always been a crowd favorite during special events at Tagawa Gardens, and we’re so happy to welcome them back for another performance on Sunday, August 14 from 1:00 – 1:30 pm. Additionally, this Saturday, August 13 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, the founder of HawkQuest is presenting a rare presentation on the history of Falconry, featuring ambassador hawks and falcons.

Our 40th Anniversary celebration will wrap up on August 19th with a free family-friendly concert and dance inside our greenhouse featuring “The Bluzinators: Blues Brothers Bootleg Roadshow.” We are joining forces with Arapahoe Libraries to bring this big get-up-on-your-feet band to you. We’ll have food trucks so you can grab a bite to eat before the show begins!
