Welcome, Spring!

Remember that our annuals are grown in our greenhouses and will need to be acclimated to outdoor conditions before planting.

Nothing you can grow outdoors delivers more instant color or eye-popping "wow" factor than annuals.  Grow 'em in pots or decorative containers…. grow 'em in small beds or sprawling borders that wrap around your landscape.  Annuals begin to celebrate the gardening season the minute you plant them.

Mix different flowers, colors, textures and heights to create your own outdoor living space.  Include herbs and edibles.  Create a space that reflects you… a space that makes you feel good, and smile.

Tagawa Gardens prides itself on being "the color people."  We have one of the largest selections of bright, blooming annuals in the region.  As our annuals staff sees it, "We're in this together!  We want you to succeed."

Connect with Nature!  Get your hands in the soil.  Let us help you choose the plants that will thrive in your landscape.  You don't have to have a green thumb to share in this celebration of Colorado gardening at its best.

What are the "hot topics" in Tagawa's Annuals Department?

1.Anything colorful!   Color comes first and drives people's choices.  Big flowers… small flowers… pretty leaves.  Those are important, too.  But color is what it's all about.  We urge people to go with what tickles their fancy, and plant the garden of their dreams.

2.Edibles are huge!  Herbs and veggies, especially tomatoes.  Tagawa's is proud to offer nearly 150 different types of tomatoes every year!  People want to know where their food is coming from.  There's no better way to do that than to grow it from the ground up!

3.Our customers love ready-to-go containers.  People's lives have never been busier.  But a busy life doesn't mean you have to give up on the pleasures of gardening.  Tagawa's makes it easy to stop, shop and go.  Walk out with baskets already overflowing with annuals, or pots of herbs and veggies well on their way to harvest.

What questions do you hear most often?

Question #1:   What should I plant?  And when?  And how?

Answer:  The "what" is totally up to you.  Plant the flowers you like…flowers that make you smile… veggies that you like to eat. Just make sure you can give your plants the conditions they need to thrive.  The right amount of sunshine and water, and proper soil conditions can make all the difference.

Our average frost-free date in metro Denver is early- to mid-May.  Tender plants set out before then may need extra protection for a while.  Tagawa's annuals staff will be happy to give you plenty of ideas on how to protect your more cold-sensitive plants.

Question #2:  Help!!  The critters are eating my plants!

Answer:  It's fun to watch the deer, rabbits and squirrels share the places we call home.  But when they start "sharing" our flowers and veggies, too, it's a different story.  Short of putting up a tall fence, your best bet is to make your plants less appealing, especially when food in the wild is scarce.  Tagawa's has several animal repellents that can be sprayed on plants making them smell unpleasant to a deer or rabbit.  We recommend alternating these repellents so the animals don't get used to them as easily.

Question #3:  I want to grow veggies and herbs, but I want them to be organic.  Can you help?

Answer:   You bet we can!  Tagawa Gardens is proud to team up with organically certified Desert Canyon Farms in Canon City. Also recently,  Hardy Boy Plants in Denver has an organic growing area, as does Power Flowers.  They offer dozens of different types of herbs and vegetables that you can count on for your own organic garden. Once these plants get to Tagawa Gardens, and only if needed , we use insect and disease treatments that are OMRI certified for organic growers so we keep up the integrity of the organic certification.
