Problems with Flicker Woodpeckers?
We can help.

Flickers are wonderful, beautiful birds, but they can drive homeowners crazy.

In the spring the males will go after your gutters & metal chimney caps.  They remind you of a jack hammer in the morning.  This is the male’s way of telling a female how wonderful he is.  He will do 2 or 3 series of these and move on if he doesn’t hear a female.
When he does find a mate, they go looking for a nesting site.  They prefer large dead trees, if not available, the sides of houses made of wood or stucco are substitutes from the bird’s perspective.

What can you do?  If possible and safe, leave up large dead trees.  Usually covering the house in wind socks, chimes and other items that blow in the wind is mildly successful.  Owl statues really don’t help.  What does seem to work is GIVE THEM A HOUSE.  These birds are territorial so mount a house for one couple and they will keep away other Flickers.   Mount the birdhouse on a pole or the side of your house, 10’ or higher.

We sell Flicker bird houses with tips on being successful with them.  If you decide to build your own house, use the dimensions from a qualified wildlife book or site.  The wrong size and you will not be successful.
